About Tobacco Free Families

Welcome to the D.C. Tobacco Free Families Campaign, a project of the American Lung Association of the District of Columbia! Consider this your website for finding out the latest treatments for quitting smoking, whether you are a smoker wanting to quit, or a family member or friend wanting to help someone quit. Health care professionals will also find the latest in nicotine withdrawal therapies and reimbursement guidelines for treatment of tobacco dependency. All services and nicotine withdrawal therapies are free because of a generous grant from the D.C. Dept. of Health in its commitment to reduce the death and disease caused by tobacco use.

The campaign is offering a variety of programs to help smokers quit. Check our list of Freedom From Smoking events for locations and dates of support group programs. You will also find a link to our list of distribution clinics for the Nicoderm CQ patch and the Commit lozenge. The patches and lozenges are being offered at no charge, while supplies last.

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death killing over 700 D.C. residents each year and can cause a significant decline in the quality of life the longer you smoke. Smoking also affects the entire family when a family member smokes around them, which also causes serious health consequences for nonsmoking family members, especially young children. This campaign is committed making sure all D.C. residents who smoke have access to smoking cessation treatments so they can stay quit for good.

If you would like to talk to a cessation counselor directly or have questions not answered on this website, please fill out the contact form and you will be contacted within 48 hours.
